Default Van Vicker Reaches Out To Youth

Popular actor, Joseph Van Vicker, has instituted a foundation to support the nation’s youth development drive.

Last Saturday, at the Lyron International School, Baatsona, Spintex Road, he launched the Van Vicker Foundation to fulfill a long-held dream to create a good environment for the youth to realise their dreams in the arts, sports, humanitarianism and education.

“To whom much is given much is expected, so says the Good Book and I am able to relate to this verse because I have been the recipient of some largesse in several ways in my life and I am happy to contribute my quota to the development of society”, Van told guests at the launching ceremony.

The event attracted Van Vicker fans from The Gambia, US, Canada, United Kingdom, the Caribbean and Ghana as well as showbiz personalities, including actor Grand Pa (Timothy Bentum); singers Tic Tac and Pat Thomas.

He said the objective of the Foundation was to apply early learning and youth development strategies to help young people to overcome obstacles in life in order to realise their full individual potentials as productive members of society.

Van Vicker pointed out that, as part of its activities, the foundation will produce low budget movies to unearth new talents in the movie industry to save the youth, especially females from unscrupulous directors and producers who may want to take advantage of young ladies, and added that, “This project will be accomplished around the world”.

Explaining how the foundation will operate, the actor said weekend sports clinics will be held on Saturdays for children at the foundation’s centres namely, the Budumburam Camp and the premises of Lyron International School at Baatsona.

Members of the foundation will also have access to musical instruments and music tutors, while professional actors will also serve as mentors for those with interests in acting.

Education materials and library services will also be made available to them. “Indeed, we have started the library services at the Bookhaven Library at the Lyron School”.

As part of its humanitarian gestures, the foundation has made donations to some needy children, including those at the Christ Faith Foster home.

Speaking on behalf of members of the Van Vicker Foundation in the Diaspora, Ms Dianne Dixon, a US citizen with Jamaican ancestry, said Africans in the Diaspora love African movies and were also in love with children on the continent, hence their decision to fly down to support the foundation.

“We have realised that the children need basic things such as books, food and clothes and we are prepared to help”. She advised other African celebrities to give back to society as Van Vicker had done and congratulated him on his decision to support youth development.

Van also thanked the media, his wife, Adwoa; his manager, Mr Eddie Nyarko (Mr Tee), Globacom Ghana, and the proprietress of Lyron School, Ms Ama Shabee for their unflinching support.

To create jobs for the youth, Van has established some businesses including the "Sky & Orange" Advertising Agency and Event Management Company and the Babetown Unisex Barbering Shop.

Prospective members and friends of the actor may join the foundation via the official Van Vicker .
