Good dietary habits are known to promote good mental and physical health. But in the case of improper eating habits, the effects can be monumentous. People do not like to talk very much about their weight, as they detest being referred to as fat or in the extreme sense, obese. In the majority, obesity is caused by excessive eating habits, coupled by a genetic predisposing factor.
Glandular problems can also contribute to obesity, especially the thyroid gland which is responsible for altering the metabolic rate at which fat is quickly broken down and expended as energy (heat). A malfunctioning thyroid gland can therefore adversely contribute in obesity.
From basic biology, we understand that food intake is essential for the gain of energy for everyday activity of the human system, and also for the repair of tissues. Cholestrol, a component of fat is essential for the production of hormones, and also forms an integral part of cell membranes which gives them the fluid nature, this is important especially for our immune system since most immune cells require a fluid membrane to be able to engulf bacteria, viruses and other foreign particles, and also to pass through the tiny gaps between blood vessels to get to their sites of infection! However not all the food we eat is instantly converted to energy.
Think of it as the body trying to store enough energy for worse weather when you are not eating. However, the rate of storage must also correspond to the rate at which this 'excess' storage is removed. If you eat more than you use this energy, it adds to the storehouse. How then is the issue of fat and oils contribute to this? Well, the body is only able to store energy in the form of fat, which are stored in the adipose tissues. Babies are born with a special type of adipose tissue commonly called baby fat.
As they grow, they lose this fat, and they develop more of the kind of fat that adults have. This helps them to keep warm. It is wrong to think that only eating fats and oils can make one obese. On the contrary, the body is able to chemically modify carbohydrates and proteins via the liver and convert them into fats. In women especially after birth which distends the abdomen, the body tries to 'fill in' the gap by accumulating connective tissue (majority being fatty tissue) to strengthen the abdominal wall.
This accounts for mothers having bigger bellies around their tummies. Normally, girls store much of their fat in their buttocks. This gives us that vuluptious curvature we see! Fat tissue can also accumulate in other places, especially in their sides and their arms, which gives it that flabby appearance as they head toward old age. Men normally have their most pronounced appearance of excess fat in their middle age, with a bulging of their stomachs. Though many factors can contribute to that, like an enlargement of the small intestine, fatty tissue is quickly laid down to 'fill the void'.
Why should we care about it anyway? Aside the fact that many people find it unattractive and also brings low self esteem to the individual, it also has serious medical implications. It speeds up the process of aging, and also increases the risk of a heart attack. As mentioned earlier, cholestrol, is an important component of cells that form tissues. However, the cholestrol molecule is insoluble in the blood. It therefore has to be 'packaged' in such a way that will make it easily transportable and not clog the blood vessels.
They are therefore processed in the liver into what we call low density lipoproteins (LDL) and transported to the site where they are needed for tissue repair or for metabolism to release energy. Its 'opponent', called high density lipoprotein (HDL) works to remove cholestrol from the bood and return them to the liver to reprocess them into storage fat. So logically, we can assert that a higher amount of LDL in the blood is indicative of a high risk of cardiovascular disease, while a high level of HDL is indicative of a low risk of a cardiovascular disease. Tis is how your medical labs tell whether you are a candidate for a heart attack.
Excess LDL's work to clog the arteries and veins and form PLAQUES which restrict blood flow to that particular part of the body where the vessel is supposed to supply.
Mostly, excercise is recommended to increase the rate of 'burning fat'. Try as much as possible to refrain from dietary pills as most of them have their unpleasant side effects. Liposuction is also an extreme medical procedure used to get rid of 'excessive fat' accumulated that seems impossible to get rid of by excersice. It is better to take measures at the very onset than to wait till it gets totally out of hand.
Thyroid hormone tratement is also an effective way of dealing with a malfunctioning gland. Also include iodated foods in your diet to help the thyroid gland in metabolic control. Aside these medical treatments, also seek psychological help to shape your lifestyle and feelings of depression and low sense of self worth that accompany the condition.
The best way to loss weight and stay in shape is to exercise and eat healthy; so basically try to live a healthy and active lifestyle. I know it's easier said than done but where there is a will there is a way. Find a friend who also wants to lose weight and do it with them because when you have someone to exercise with it motivates you. When you slack they can keep you on track vice versa. We have to remember that input should equal output. Meaning the more fatty food you eat the more exercise you need to get ride of the excess fat, otherwise "it will be stored as fat," as LMILLS stated.
Good advice there. Hopefully i can turn my 1pack into 2 packs. I do 10 press ups every morning. Gonna try and increase that to 15. phwoaarr!!

Lool.. I understand ur statements. Some pple do eat like pigs and still have a 'normal physique'. But it doesnt mean they are free from dietary associated problems. Actually, their metabolism is high enough to convert body fat into heat and energy. The problem however is that, there are different kinds of fat derivatives that are produced from metabolism and catabolism, and most of these are insoluble and may find their way into the blood. Most of these molecules are protected in protein coating that prevent them form running freely in the circulatory system and clogging it. An excess of these 'fats' cause a gradual deposition within the lumen (inside wall) of the blood vessels which we commonly know as plaque. It looks like a gradually growing scar inside the blood vessel. Think of blood vessels as drainage pipes. With the solid waste blocking the normal flow of blood, it could increase the pressure on the heart and result in hypertension, the enlargening of the heart and sometimes sudden heart failures such as in the case of a coronary thrombosis where the coronary artery supplying the heart wall with nutrients gets blocked. Sometimes this condition is subtle, and u might not show signs and make u think u have a normal body weight and are healthy even though u eat as much fatty foods as u can. Those with manifest fat deposits are not able to quickly metabolize as much of the food as they take in, so to them it is an indicator that they may be heading toward a degrading health ..therefore, it is essential that u do watch what u eat, afterall, it is said that u r what u eat!!!!!
