Default We'll Maximise Use Of Associated Gas - Minister

Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr Kofi Boham, says the government is now focused on how to maximise the use of the gas reserves in the country.

“We believe that the quantities of gas available to us is more than enough to propel the country’s industrialisation drive and I can assure you that all is being worked out to make that dream come true,” he said.

The Deputy Minister said this when he addressed a high-powered business delegation from Belarus and Russia, which was in the country to explore business opportunities in the oil and gas industry in the country.

He said one major component of the operations of industries in the country was the cost of electricity and since the gas would have a significant impact on lowering tariffs, it was bound to positively affect the cost of doing business.

Mr Boham said the government had already located a site in the Western Region where a gas plant would be sited to produce power at a lower cost to the national grid.

He said the country was poised to increase its energy production capacity from the present 2,000 megawatts of power to about 5,000 megawatts to ensure constant availability at affordable cost not just for industry but for every human endeavour that required the use of electrical power.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Mahama Ayariga, for his part assured the investors that the country was the best place to invest because of the enormous prospects.

He said apart from the political stability and the stable economic environment, the presence of oil had also raised the credentials of Ghana as the best place for investors.

The investors also expressed delight at the good investment signals they had picked, as well as the potentials of the country and pledged their commitment to investing in the country.
