Anadarko Petroleum Corp. struck oil offshore of Ghana at the Owo prospect in the Deepwater Tano Bloc, the company said Monday.

The well was drilled to a total depth of about 12,765 feet and found 174 net feet of high-quality oil pay in two zones.

Anadarko holds an 18-percent interest in the Deepwater Tano Block. Tullow Oil is the operator with a 49.95-percent interest. The other co-owners are Kosmos Energy, Sabre Oil & Gas and the Ghana National Petroleum Corp.

Shares of Anadarko rose $1.67, or 3.4 percent, to $50.44 in afternoon trading.
