The 2016 Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo has described as ‘regrettable’ the cancellation of five subjects in the just ended BECE.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) had to cancel five subjects after it realized they had been compromised.

The affected papers are English Paper Two, Mathematics Paper Two, Integrated Science, Religious and Moral Education (RME) Paper Two and Social Studies.

Even though the examination period has ended, 29 and 30 June have been fixed for those cancelled papers to be written again.

In a statement issued on Friday, Nana Addo urged for a thorough investigation to be conducted and welcomed the involvement of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI)

“The tragedy that has befallen some 438,000 pupils who had prepared themselves for the aborted BECE examinations is most regrettable. Cancellation of five papers in the BECE era is unprecedented and requires a thorough investigation. The involvement of the BNI and police in the exercise is most welcome….

…As we await the outcome of the investigation, WAEC should be more vigilant in the processing of the examination papers to prevent the recurrence of this incident. My heartfelt sympathies go to the examination candidates and their parents. I urge the children to keep up their spirits and prepare themselves for the rescheduled papers so as to avoid any disruption in their progress towards a brighter future” the statement said.
