Personnel of the Narcotic Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have arrested an alleged drug peddler, Osmanu Shaibu, with substances suspected to be high quality cannabis (wee) wrapped for sale.

Osmanu, who claims the 1,027 wrappers of the dried leaves found in his possession were the best quality in town, said he had therefore developed a brand name “Happy H. Happy” to help patrons easily identify his product.

According to the Director-General of CID, Prosper Agblor, Suspect Osmanu was arrested during an anti-narcotics operation in his house at Adabraka Sahara, a suburb of Accra. A search in the house revealed two large jute bags (Ghana Must Go) containing 46 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

The suspect then led the police into two separate rooms were they found 17 parcels of cannabis concealed in a fridge in one room and 6 polythene bags containing 1,027 wrappers of similar leaves, sticks and seeds in the other room. All the 1027 wrappers were stamped with the brand name “Happy H. Happy.”

Suspect Osmanu has so far claimed ownership of all the suspected cannabis. Police investigations indicated that Osamu was the main source of supply of cannabis to all ‘wee’ peddling spots within the Accra Central area, in addition to being a major source of export to Europe. Police suspect that he has been peddling illicit leaves for the past three years. Currently, he is in police custody and would soon be arraigned.
