Barely seven months after one of Ghana’s alleged most notorious armed robbers, Mathias Kwesi Tsegah, right-hand man of another notorious robber, John Kofi Fiagbdezi, was killed by a mob for robbery, his younger brother, David Tsegah, has also been nabbed by the Kpeshie Divisional Police Command for allegedly robbing a transport operator at gunpoint.

John Kofi Fiagbdezi, alias Spider, was killed after evading the police in a bloody hide-and-seek game in March this year.

David Tsegah was arrested together with Mark Adase at Coastal Estate area on the Spintex Road in Accra, after allegedly robbing Emmanuel Berko, 30, a transport owner of some money and snatching his Benz car at gunpoint.

Items found on them upon their arrest were two locally-made pistols and three cartridges.

Briefing Daily Guide, the Kpeshie Divisional Police Commander, Slim Manford, stated that on December 18, 2010 at about 7:30 pm, the two suspected robbers tracked the victim, together with his five-year- old son from his workplace to his house.

As soon as the victim stopped his vehicle in front of his gate and alighted to open the gate, the two suspects, who had laid ambush at the gate, attacked him and robbed him of his Benz car with registration number GR 8670 U, two mobile phones valued at GH¢270 and a wallet containing GH¢150 and bolted.

“When complainant raised the alarm and neighbours were coming to his aid, the second suspect, David Tsegah, fired a warning shot which scared the people and the robbers sped off.” Mr. Manford, a chief superintendent of police, said that the two dropped the five-year-old boy at a distance and sped off.

The victim chased the armed robbers with a motorbike and spotted them at the Spintex Road. “The two got stuck in traffic upon reaching Kotobabi Junction on the Spintex road, so an alarm was raised and they were arrested,” he added. “The suspects took to their heels but suspect Mark Adase was arrested by one Kwasi Asare after the robber had attempted firing at him but the weapon refused to respond whilst David Tsegah managed to escape.”

Mark Adase led police to arrest David Tsegah at Spintex road. A search conducted in his room led to the discovery of the locally- manufactured pistol with two AAA cartridges that he used in the robbery.

The two robbery suspects are now in custody being prepared for court soon.
