The Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori has stated that the Police Service is determined to fight and clamp down on criminals especially highway robbers.

Supt. Kwesi Ofori was reacting to Sunday’s robbery incident where about seven different vehicles were robbed on the Bawku-Boltaganga road in a town called Nangode.

The armed robbers numbering about seven were said to be wielding AK 47 rifles with one of them holding a pistol.

The vehicles included 2 two Urvan buses, two 207-Benz buses and one private car. Two buses later involved bringing the number to seven.

The robbers were said to have made away with the belongings of the passengers who were on board all the vehicles.

Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News Superintendent Kwesi Ofori said some of the commercial vehicles that communte in the night will be escorted by the Police.

He added that the police has also intensified patrols on the highways.

“We’ve intensified patrols; we have also given the Police *** Military exercise an upper gear. We are doing everything possible to control this. Looking at the route we are also collaborating with the communities”.

“We have deployed a lot of Policemen to assist a lot of commercial that commute from the South to the North and they are on board…we have also concentrated the highway patrols along these routes”.

Supt Ofori further mentioned that one of the armed robbers of the said incident has been arrested and is helping in investigations.
