Default Asamoah Gyan To Face 2 Match Ban

Ghana’s leading striker Asamoah Gyan is set to miss the next two qualifying games against Congo in Brazzaville and Swaziland after being shown a red card in the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Nile Crocodiles of Sudan on Sunday.

He was sent off in the 82th minute of the game following an encounter with a Sudanese defender in the opponent’s goal area.

A Sudanese team official was also sent off together with Asamoah Gyan for stepping onto the pitch to protest against the tackle, even when the referee had not taken a decision yet.

The game, which ended goalless, saw Ghana wasting numerous chances through several free-kicks.

The Sudanese before the game were on level points with Ghana, although Ghana led the table with three goals.

Ghana still tops the Group with four points and three goals. Sudan is second with four points and two goals.

DR Congo who beat Swaziland 3-1 after losing 2-0 to Sudan in their first game, now lie third with three points; while Swaziland are fourth with no point. Ghana’s next game is against Congo.
