Default Local Coaches Are All Hypocrites - Coach Ken Augustt

Coach Ken Augustt says the sudden realisation *by local football coaches that they could handle the Black Stars is a mark of hypocrisy that has characterised their trade over the years.

In a stance that could ruffle feathers again, Coach Augustt has questioned the morality of his compatriots for suddenly finding their voices in the chorus that has attended the vacancy created by the exit of Serbian trainer, Milovan Rajevac.

“I still think a local coach should be in charge of the Black Stars, but I cannot understand why they are unable to speak their minds on critical subjects that directly affect them.

“Otherwise, I believe the local man is capable, and deserves the job now, not in the future.

“It is disgusting when you see full- blown men kottow to the whims of so-called seniors who dictate issues and events, and still openly support and participate in the hiring of expatriates,” the former Great Olympics coach told Graphic Sports in an interview this week.

Coach Augustt, known for his outspoken nature, stirred controversy *when he took a stand against the intended retention of Rajevac** whose two-year contract with Ghana expired at the end of August.

“At the time, it was difficult to hear local coaches stand up against the hiring of expatriates.

The few who spoke took issues with me, with some of them categorically stating their preference for a foreign man over the local coach,” he said.

Today, names such as David Duncan, Bashir Hayford, Mohammed Polo and Abdul Razak have reportedly expressed interest in the vacant post, while Herbert Addo is being mentioned as another capable hand from the local stock.

But Mr Augustt whose no-nonsense style remains an unmistakable trademark throughout a career that has travelled the ranks of Power FC, Okwawu United, Real Sportive, Tema Youth, Afienya United, among others, all spanning about 21 years, said local coaches must demonstrate the kind of boldness that would earn them the necessary respect and confidence.

“If we can speak only when things are calm, we lose the character that should earn us the confidence of local employers,” he said.

This notwithstanding, he said it was better to look towards the rungs of the local breed for the next Black Stars coach, insisting that the local man could deliver “if he receives the kind of support accorded the expatriate, including an appreciable financial remuneration”.

The honest truth thus far. Ghanaian coaches are indeed hypocrites. They'll rather someone else makes the noise for them and brand him the villain than make the noise themselves.

True talk. They are followers, and not trend setters.

Typical Ghanaian characteristics. I listen to radio presenters ranting on radio about giving the Ghanaian coaches a chance yet the coaches themselves are silent. Idiots ! Even this Kwasi Appiah guy, how come he hasn't applied for the job ???

The most annoying thing going round now is people saying Kwasia Appiah is humble and a gentleman 'cos he is not making noise about the position. WTF, like being humble and a gentleman will get him recognized for the job.
