Algeria striker Rafik Saifi has been fined almost $3,000 (1,900) after slapping a female journalist during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The incident took place after the Desert Foxes' 1-0 loss to USA in their final match of the tournament.

Saifi struck out at Asma Halimi, a journalist with Algerian daily newspaper Competition, in a post-match interview area.

Halimi slapped the striker back as a reflex and then reported him to Fifa.

The incident was the culmination of a year of bad feeling between the pair.
