A former captain of the Black Starlets Alex Opoku is now a full-time pastor based in France.

According to Daniel Addo, a former team mate of the victorious Starlets 91 squad, the onetime skillful and inspirational captain had decided to dedicate his whole life to God by preaching the gospel.

Speaking on the Joy Sports Link programme Saturday, Alex Opoku, a former player of the Brong Ahafo United who immediately left the shores of Ghana after the Starlets won the World Championship in Italy in 1991, said he owned a church in the Western European country, sharing the word of God with many people.

Alex Opoku, after the Italy 1991 championship, went to Germany where he played in the lucrative German Bundesliga before leaving for France after some years. While in Germany, he played for teams such as Fortuna Dusseldorf, where he was a star.

He played alongside such great players as Nii Odartey Lamptey, Yaw Preko, Sebastian Barnes, Kofi Nimo and Mohammed Gargo.

He also featured for the Black Satellites that won silver in Australia in 1993 at the World U-20 championship.

He would always be remembered for inspiring the Starlets to beat crack teams such as Brazil and Spain.
