In keeping with its agenda of promoting movies made on the continent, for the continent, Multi TV’s Cine Afrik channel is rolling out a thrilling pack of classic movies every Saturday evening on the channel.

The series gets off on a powerful note with the screen adaptation of the epic stage play “WEDLOCK OF THE GODS”, written by Nigeria’s first female playwright and professor of Theatre Arts, Prof. Anwazuluwa Onuekwuke Sofola [also know as Zulu Sofola].

“WEDLOCK OF THE GODS” is a tragic story of ritual death and mourning. The story revolves round a young girl (OGWOMA) who is forced into marrying a man against her wish. Three years into the marriage, her supposed husband (ADIGWU) whom she described as a slave driver died. Instead of mourning him as custom and tradition demands, she runs back into the arms of her former boyfriend (ULOKO). Taboo is committed, the gods are angry and the consequences are unimaginable.

The play originally published in 1972 by Zulu Sofola was aimed at among others stimulating global action for the protection of human rights and to halt all forms of discrimination and abuse of human rights.

Make a date this Saturday at 6:30pm and watch the story unfold as Ogwoma battles the odds to be with the man she truly loves. Will tradition allow it or forbid it?

The movie will be repeated at 5pm on Sunday.

Make a date with Cine Afrik, the 24 hour African movie haven on Multi TV, every day for captivating and insightful movies as well as series, documentaries and talk shows from the continent.
