Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has informed the football community of the need to scale down the high number of second division clubs.

Speaking at the Extra-Ordinary Session of Congress just this month, the GFA President explained that the downsizing would be done over a three-year period.

Nyantakyi said: "There should be a ceiling of 2nd Division clubs in the all the regions.

"There should be a set number of teams competing at this level. There numbers are too large and vary from region to region.

"We have to scale down to 40 second division teams in each region over a three-year period."

The move is expected to achieve a standardized system for all the second division leagues nationwide to enable the leagues receive support from the Ghana Football Association.

"This would enable them (second division leagues) get meaningful support. We need quality not quantity and we must endeavour to achieve this over a period."
