Over 500 supporters of the National Democratic Congress who recently announced their defection to the NPP say they are not blame for the election malpractices they admitted to some few days ago.

According to the leader of the group they were only obeying instructions from leaders of the NDC.

The Electoral Commission ordered the police to arrest members of the group after they openly admitted stealing two ballot boxes in the Tain elections.

But in a subtle twist of the tale Alidu Saeed, leader of the group told Nhyira FMs Ohemeng Tawia they only protected the ballot boxes contrary to the early information they put out.

He however admitted the group used unacceptable methods like intimidations and threats to win the election.

If anything, the leaders of the NDC in the area should be the ones to be arrested because they only followed instructions, he noted.

The NDC MP for the area, Ahmed Ibrahim, admits knowing members of the group but denies instructing them to steal or protect ballot boxes.

According to him, the defections are part of a propaganda ploy by the NPP.

Meanwhile, the NPP has welcomed the group into their fold.

General Secretary of the party Kwodwo Owusu Afriyie said they will capitalize on the defection to learn the modus operandi of the NDC.

With such knowledge, the NPP will be able to monitor the activities of the NDC and to protect the integrity of the elections, he said.
