An 18-year student has been arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to sell locally manufactured guns in Accra. Kingsley Ohene of the Evangelical Presbyterian Trade Training Centre at Alavanyo, near Kpando in the Volta Region, was arrested on Friday when he attempted to sell two guns to a police informant.

Briefing the Times newspaper in Accra yesterday, Accra Regional crime Officer, Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adufati, said on March 5, a police informant met Ohene at Abeka Lapaz lorry station in Accra, and in a conversation, the student told the informant that he deals in guns.
The informant feigned interest in the business and asked him to bring some of the weapons to him to buy.

The Crime Officer said Ohene and the informant exchanged phone numbers and kept contact with each other, and last Friday, Ohene called the informant to inform him that he had secured some weapons and asked the informant to meet him at school in Accra.

“He said the informant alerted the Police, who arrested Ohene when he attempted to offer the guns for sale. Two locally-made guns were found in his school bag together with books, and mobile phone. He said when he was interrogated; the suspect claimed the guns were given to him by his brother, to sell.
