Three young men have been arrested by police officers from the Special Weapons Ammunitions and Tactics (SWAT) team at the Police Headquarters in Accra for armed robbery.

They are Victor Akpatoglo, who claims to be 14 years old, Robert Tawiah, 17 and Kwadwo Agyeman, 20.

The three men overpowered a female driver and dispossessed her of a Mercury 4X4 vehicle with registration number GN 2161-09 at Ayensu River Estates near Oyibi at about 2:30am on Thursday March 3, 2011.

A spot check on them revealed offensive weapons such as cutlasses, kitchen knives, screw drivers, chisels and a spent cartridge.

In addition, the police retrieved 5 laptop computers, an MP 3 player, several cell phones and accessories.

ACP Richmond Boi-Bi-Boi, Director of Police Operations, said the police information room had a distress call at dawn on Thursday that a three-man gang had attacked a lady driver at Oyibi.

The SWAT team was quickly dispatched to the location where Robert Tawiah was arrested at Ayensu with the vehicle.

Robert later led the police to arrest Victor Akpatoglo and Kwadwo Agyeman, said to be the ring leader, at Abokobi.

During interrogation, the three disclosed that they had been involved in several other robberies in and around Oyarifa-Abokobi areas.

The three also confessed that on Tuesday March 1, 2011, they did snatch a Benz saloon car and a laptop computer from its owner at Abokobi but have since abandoned the car at an unknown destination.

ACP Boi-Bi-Boi said the police would launch a full-scale investigation into the incidents.

He used the opportunity to caution armed robbers to take up a new trade or risk being arrested.
