28th August 2014, 12:16 AM
The Ebola scare has compelled the English Teachers Association of Ghana to call off its annual conference to be held in the Volta Regional capital, Ho.

It fears the conference could fuel the spread of the Ebola disease, which has ravaged countries like Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

Ebola has killed more than 1,400 people in West Africa in the latest outbreak.

Scheduled for September 2014, the meeting would have brought together English tutors from around the world to discuss and find practical solutions to the falling standards of the English language in Ghana and Africa at large.

President of the association, James Adjei told Luv News they could not guarantee the safety of participants should there be an outbreak in the country.

Therefore, the association is withholding any further arrangements until it has assurance from health authorities that the rate of infection in the other counties is under control.
