President John Mahama and members of his government are scheduled to go for a retreat from Friday to review the economic situation of the country.

Briefing the press at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, a deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Murtala Mohammed said the meeting will afford ministers of state the “opportunity to bring on board the challenges they face with regards to the implementation of the 2013 budget that was presented.”

He noted that the meeting will also serve as a curtain raiser towards the 2014 budget in which ministers will be given the opportunity to prepare their budget “but there will be coordination of whatever they prepare such that we will not have the issue of spending beyond the approved budget.”

According to Mr. Mohammed, salary issues of workers in Ghana will be discussed saying, “Single Spine we all agree that there is a challenge. These are issues that they will be looking at…we will be looking at the wage and salaries and in this case, Single Spine comes in.”

“There will also be an overview of the major fiscal challenges that are facing this nation specifically, the commitment and contracts that government has entered into and those that government will be entering into,” he added.
