Black Stars captain John Mensah says the team should not underrate the Malawi ahead of this weekend’s final African Nations qualifier.

The Stars will play the first leg on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana drew a bye from the previous qualifying round after playing at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The Flames of Malawi eliminated Chad 4-3 on aggregate in the second qualifying round. Malawi, who have made two appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations finals, now face a herculean task of beating the four-time African champions.

The team has training since Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium with Coach Akwesi Appiah having a full house at his disposal.

John Mensah who is not in the team due to personal reasons for this game was quick to add that there were no small teams in football at the moment and is therefore urging his team mates not to underrate the Malawians. “I hope we can beat them but I can tell you that we will not be easy as most people think.
In football these days you will make a big mistake if you underrate any team because there are no pushovers in the game now.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will be relying on Kwadwo Asamoah and Andre Ayew who have enjoyed blistering starts to their domestic seasons to provide the ammunition for his strike force which will see Asamoah Gyan make his much anticipated return to the national team after six month hiatus. Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyeman Badu will be a notable absentee from the game after missing the first three days of training to work on his fitness.

The Fifteen winners from this final qualifying round will join hosts South Africa for the finals which will begin on January 19.
