A 27-year-old medical doctor, Dr Desmond Kabah, was found dead on Sunday in a pool of blood in his room at Korle Bu in Accra, but the police say it suspects foul play.

Dr Kabah, the third of four children of Mr Leo Kabah, Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency in the Upper East Region, was doing his housemanship at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after graduating from the University of Ghana Medical School this year.

According to the police, the deceased, who lived on Houseman Block N, room 42, had his scrotum and left armpit stained with blood. There was also blood oozing out of his nostrils, with bruises on his left leg.

His father, who spoke to The Finder, described his son as “calm, friendly and God fearing.”

He told the paper that he was still contemplating what could have been the cause of his son’s death. The deceased would have turned 28 years on June 24.

Briefing The Finder in Accra yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tettey, said the unfortunate incident was reported to the police by two friends of the deceased at about 7pm on Sunday, May 27.

According to the police, friends of the deceased, Dr Benjamin Blankson and Dr John Gharbin, who noticed the absence of their friend on Sunday decided to check on him.

Upon opening the door, which was not locked but closed, the two friends saw their colleague (Dr Kabah) lying lifeless in a pool of blood, with the room scattered.

DSP Tettey said the two friends quickly reported the case to the Korle Bu Police Station where the Homicide Unit of the Police Headquarters came in to survey the room.

He indicated that the room of Dr Kabah was disorganised, with his bed sheet soaked in blood, adding that the key of the deceased was also found lying on the table.

“The police cannot say they suspect murder or suicide, but foul play,” DSP Tettey said. He added that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

The Facebook wall of the deceased had the following inscriptions: “Very perturbed by your demise Desmond Kabah! Someway somehow, I trust the good Lord will bring the perpetrators to justice. I pray the good Lord to rest you in Abraham's bosom!”
