Former interim national executive members of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), who recently defected to the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), have warned Dr Henry Herbert Lartey, son of the late founder, Mr Dan Lartey, to stop peddling lies about them.

They said their defection to the PPP was with a clear conscience wanting to be part of the newly and yet to be outdoored party which is the only party that also believes in the “Domestification” concept of the GCPP.

Mr Alhassan Saeed, Spokesperson of the defected group at a press conference in Accra on Thursday said in reaction to recent accusations by Dr Lartey that: “we are interested in a political party which believes in inclusiveness and does not only mean serving in government.

“More importantly, it means providing equal opportunity to all Ghanaians without regard to political, ethnic or religious affiliation”.

He therefore warned Dr Henry Lartey to “stop peddling falsehood or we’ll spill the beans”.

Mr Saeed indicated that Dr Lartey had proven beyond doubt through his actions that he had a questionable character and challenged the credibility of his academic background.

Mr Saeed indicated that he together with Mr Barnor and several other Executives had since 1998 faithfully served the late Dan Lartey and the GCPP, as they were accordingly elected as National Education Secretary and National Second Vice Chairman respectively at their congress in Ho and therefore could not be referred to as imposters.

He explained that the former leadership of the party had advised Dr Lartey countless times to seek due processes of becoming a member, which he objected to and instead wanted to impose himself on them as the Chairman and Leader of the GCPP after the demise of his father.

He said Dr Lartey even ignored a caution made by Mr Sarfo Kantanka of the Electoral Commission (EC) that political parties were not inheritance for one man run.

He explained that due to the confusion a decision was reached as advised by the EC to constitute an Interim Committee in accordance with the GCPP’s constitution – Saeed was appointed as the Acting General Secretary of the Interim National Executives of the GCPP, Mr Gilbert Barnor as Acting National First Vice Chairman, while Henry Lartey was made Acting Chairman.

He said copies of the names of the selected Interim Executives were distributed to both the EC and the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) and also published by both the Ghana News Agency and Daily Graphic.

Mr Saeed said according to the GCPP Constitution Mr Ali Adam was only a member and not the General Secretary claimed by Dr Lartey in his recent media encounters.

He said the interim national executives had undertaken series of activities in the company of Dr Lartey which include a serious grassroot activity that paved way for the maiden inauguration of the interim regional executives at Takoradi and given extensive media coverage by TV3, Metro TV, TV Africa and Skyy FM and also a meeting at Osu Clottey where they supplied jerseys and footballs to the youth in the community.

He said at that meeting, he Saeed addressed the gathering in his capacity as the Acting General Secretary of the party in the presence Dr Lartey, and therefore could not be an imposter in the party.

He urged the public to treat all allegations by both Dr Henry Lartey and Kofi Wayo with disdain and an attempt to deceive the Ghanaian public.

Mr Saeed encouraged Ghanaians and GCPP sympatizers’ to join hands with the PPP and to embrace the idea that individuals from different political parties to work together for the benefit of all. GNA
