View Full Version : 75th AIPS Congress ends in Austria

Innsbruck, Austria, Jan. 16, GNA The 75th Delegates Congress of the Association of International Press for Sports (AIPS) has ended in Innsbruck, Austria with a resolution to improve upon the ethics of the profession around the world.

The Congress attended by President and General Secretaries of Sports Press Associations across the world was under the auspices of the mother body, AIPS.

The four day Congress, which discussed modern trends in sports reporting, the impact of the new media and how to make positive use of it and the rising use of the synthetic turfs across the world was attended by 260 delegates from 100 countries across the globe.

Several international organizations such as the International Olympic Committee (IOC), European Handball Federation, Commonwealth Games Federation, Local Organising Committee of the European Football Championships and Procta and Gamble also took the opportunity address the delegates on wide range of issues.

Gianni Merlo, President of AIPS challenged delegates to uphold the ethics of the profession and share the important lessons they have learnt at the Congress with their members.

He said the 2012 Congress has also set a new pace for the profession and expressed the hope that it impact will be seen at the London 2012 Olympic Games later in the year.

Ackah Anthony, President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) described the Congress as an eye opener and a challenging one.

He said it has exposed delegates to many issues such as the need to reorganize sports journalists in Africa to make it more vibrant.

Anthony said it has challenged national associations to be up and doing by developing more strategic ways to enhance their image and the sport across the globe.
