The Agona District Council of Labour has added its voice to the calls on government to restore the subsidy on fuel prices.

They have also called on the government to increase the salaries of workers immediately to mitigate the current high cost of living in the country.

The Council took the decision at a closed door emergency meeting, attended by executives of the various Unions in the Agona West Municipality at Agona Swedru, on Saturday.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Mr Francis Odoom, Chairman of the Council said the restoration of the subsidy on petroleum products would ensure industrial peace.

According to the Union, “failure to restore the subsidy on fuel would compel workers to advise themselves on the nest line of action”.

He said Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which is a domestic product used by almost every worker in the country has been increased by 30 percent.

Mr Odoom said the council wanted a total reversal to the old prices of the product since the increases had raised the prices of commodities, lorry fares, foodstuff and many other items.
